조각가였던 아버지의 영향으로 조각 작품을 만지고 놀며 성장한 김채린 작가는 홍익대 조소과에서 학사부터 석박사까지 모두 마치고 촉각을 매개로 한 조각을 만든다. 김채린은 조각에 접촉한 기억과 시간이 저장된다고 믿으며, 시각 보다는 촉각으로 작품을 감상할 수 있게 한다. 이처럼 몸을 기준으로 한 관계 양상을 탐구하며, 디자인적인 조형성이나 인체의 재현 보다는 비정형적인 조각품 자체의 표면과 덩어리에 대한 연구를 지속한다.
